Travellers will obviously need to bring spending money - the amount will vary depending on what you want to do (eg. whether you drink, what souvenirs you are wanting to buy, etc.) We recommend as a guideline of USD 30 - USD 40 per day, in addition to the optional excursions listed.

Eating out
Lunch at a local pub
Restaurant meals, alcohol, soft drinks and mineral water are not included in the tour cost. There will however be opportunities en route where you will be able to eat out and although this is not compulsory, you should keep this in mind when budgeting. Alcohol prices vary considerably, but beer, wine and cold drinks are similarly priced throughout. Other alcohol is fairly expensive.
Mokoro trip on the Delta
Dune boarding in the Namib
  Tips
No gratuities are included and should be budgeted for. The tipping of the local guides on the Delta excursion, Serengeti/Ngorongoro Crater tour and Matopos excursion is expected from the group. The tipping of the driver and courier is not expected, but appreciated. This is usually decided between the group and at their discretion.
  Notes and Credit Cards
It is advisable to bring spending money in smaller denominations (whether cas or travellers cheques), as banks will generally not give change in forex. The USD is widely accepted throughout Africa, although USD 50 and USD 100 notes are often not accepted due to the high counterfeit rate. If travelling in Uganda, please ensure that USD notes are post 1990.
In Africa, credit cards can be used in some places so they can be a useful resource. However, credit cards should not be relied upon as the main source of funds as there are many places (especially north of Zimbabwe) where cards cannot be used, especially for cash advances. Rand (ZAR) traveller's cheques or cash can be exchanged as far as Swaziland, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, but any Rand traveller's cheques must be endorsed for regional use.
