Kande Beach Campsite lies about 20km south of Chintheche and for many years has been a popular stop on Lake Malawi for both overland trucks and other travellers. Positioned on a beautiful stretch of beach, and run with permission and co-operation of the local chief, Kande has a very relaxed and sociable atmosphere which makes it a difficult place to leave. The owners support several projects in the local village and the recent development of banda accommodation has added to the attraction of an already beautiful spot. There is a large open bar and kiosk selling food (cooking utensils and firewood are available free of charge) and a restaurant. Also available for hire are catamarans, canoes, pedal-boats, windsurfers and snorkelling equipment. There is a dormitory and additional bandas for those who do not wish to camp. Kande Beach lies 3km from the main road and the turn-off is signposted from Kande village (the bus stage here is used by both express buses and country buses).
