Overland Adventure Travel  »  Botswana  »  Makgadikgadi Pans

Makgadikgadi Pans is situated directly between Maun and Francistown. Makgadikgadi Pans was the site of a former super lake and now part of the route of Southern Africa 's largest remaining migration, this part of Botswana is a must for travellers looking for the slightly unusual. During the wet season between November and May the Makgadikgadi Pans fill with water and attract a myriad of flamingos, pelicans, ducks and geese together with large herds of zebra, wildebeest and other plains game.During the dry season the water recedes leaving an immense shallow depression of salt pans and semi-desert, which are hauntingly beautiful in their desolation.
