Day 1: Experience the 'Smoke that Thunders'

Spend your first day on tour visiting Victoria Falls, where you can get your adrenalin pumping with some exciting adventure activities: there's nothing quite like capsizing your raft in the middle of the Zambezi.

Alternatively relax, enjoy the spectacular views of the Falls and get to know your new travelling companions before you head off to the bustling Zambian capital of Lusaka.

Day 2: Shop in Lusaka
Begin your day with some shopping in Lusaka before heading north-east towards Chipata. Enjoy the lively atmosphere and experience the Zambian culture by chatting to some of the friendly locals.

Days 3-4: Enjoy Sunset Game Drives in Luangwa

Early in the morning you'll drive from Chipata to the border of the South Luangwa National Park, where you'll spend 2 nights on the bank of the river. Reach camp in the late afternoon with enough time to relax and enjoy this beautiful, remote setting.

The following day you have the option of enjoying an early morning guided walk in the park or to sleep in and enjoy the sounds of wild. Later, your group will visit the community-run tribal textile project and wander through a local village.

In the afternoon you can enjoy a game drive in the South Luangwa National Park, where you'll witness a striking Zambian sunset.

Days 5-6: Enter the Malawian Highlands

Leave the South Luangwa behind you and pass through the Zambia-Malawi border into the highlands of Malawi, where the area holds part of the largest man-made forest in Africa.

You'll spend the night at Luwawa Forest Camp, and have the chance to enjoy some leisurely fishing, mountain biking and hiking.

Days 7-8: Soak up the Sun at Lake Malawi

Today you'll get your first glimpse of massive Lake Malawi as you travel down from the forest. You'll spend the next couple of carefree days on Kande Beach.

For the more adventurous there are endless leisure and water-sport activities: snorkelling, scuba-diving, parasailing, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing and horse-riding are all available.

Alternatively, soak up the atmosphere and relax in one of the most scenic and memorable holiday destinations in Africa. The evenings are spent beside Lake Malawi's tranquil waters.

Days 9-10: Relax at Chitimba Beach

Continue along the lake shore to Chitimba Beach, an area known for its banana palms and papaya trees. Because Lake Malawi lies at an altitude of around 500 meters, it has a constant warm and tropical climate.

The adventurous can go hiking up to Livingstonia or the waterfall. This is quite a tough hike and you'll have to leave early.There is abseiling here too which can be booked through Chitimba Beach Camp. Alternatively, you can just relax lakeside.

Day 11: Ascend out of the Great Rift Valley

Leave Lake Malawi behind you and make the border crossing into Tanzania.

As you climb out of the Great Rift Valley through some spectacular mountain passes, you'll pass the vast tea plantations in the highlands to your camp on Kisolonza Farm outside Iringa.

Day 12: Travel through Mikumi to Dar es Salaam

Today you transit through Mikumi National Park to the historical port city of Dar es Salaam - the gateway to the Zanzibar islands.

The city is an eclectic mix of Swahili, German, Asian and British architecture, reflecting its colonial past and more recent history. You'll stay at Mikadi Beach or Silversands for the night, where your guide will arrange your ferry tickets for your island crossing the next day.

Days 13-15: Explore the 'Spice Island' of Zanzibar

A transfer by ferry in the morning will take you to the island of Zanzibar, the spice capital of East Africa. Spend the first night in historical Stone Town before transferring to the northern part of the island.

Zanzibar is worth exploring; coral reefs, white, sandy beaches, bustling markets and ancient architecture make the island a colourful and exotic destination.

Wander through Stone Town, embark on a spice tour, or just relax island style with optional snorkelling and scuba dives.

Day 16: Catch a Ferry Back to Dar
Today you reluctantly leave Zanzibar, catch a late ferry (or flight) back to Dar es Salaam and return to your campsite at Mikadi Beach or Silversands.

Day 17: Drive to Arusha

Your morning starts with a long and scenic drive to Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania. If there are clear skies en route you might see majestic Mount Kilimanjaro.

Spend the evening in Meserani Snake Park or Masi Camp, where those who are going to explore the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater the following day will prepare for their excursion.

Days 18-19: Discover the Serengeti & Ngorongoro

Today you have the opportunity to enjoy a 3-day trip into the renowned Serengeti National Park. Enjoy a morning game drive, then travel via Olduvai Gorge, known as the 'Cradle of Mankind' to the Ngorongoro Crater, an area rich in animals and birdlife.

For those not going into the parks, there is the chance to explore Arusha and absorb some of the fascinating local culture, history and customs.

Location: Serengeti, Tanzania
Day 20: Visit a Maasai Village

Travel to one of the local villages and meet with some of the Maasai people, a warrior tribe known for their tall stature, striking red blankets and tribal dances.

In the evening you'll enjoy a final meal around the truck where you'll no doubt reminisce about the last few weeks' adventures.

Day 21: Finish your Tour in Nairobi

After crossing the border into Kenya you'll continue towards the capital city of Nairobi, a cosmopolitan and worldly African city.

Although your tour has ended, some groups like to spend this evening at a local restaurant. Carnivore, an open-air restaurant which serves a staggering variety of game meat, is always a popular choice.
