Begin with some adrenalin-packed activities at Victoria Falls before continuing through Zambia and Malawi, where you'll spend a few days enjoying the secrets of Visas are the responsibility of the traveller and that the Whichway Adventure Company will not be held responsible for clients being denied entry should they not be in the possession of the relevant visas.
  

Day 1: Start Your Adventure at Vic Falls

Spend your first day on tour visiting Victoria Falls, known as the 'Smoke that Thunders', where you can get your adrenalin pumping with some exciting adventure activities: there's nothing quite like bungee jumping over the Falls.

Alternatively relax, enjoy the spectacular views of the Falls and get to know your new travelling companions before you head off to the bustling Zambian capital of Lusaka.

Day 2: Get to Know Zambian Culture

Begin your day with some shopping for curios in Lusaka before heading north-east towards Chipata.

Enjoy the lively atmosphere and experience the Zambian culture by chatting to some of the friendly locals.

Days 3-4: Enjoy Remote South Luangwa

Get up early and set off from Chipata to the border of the South Luangwa National Park, where you'll spend 2 nights on the bank of the river. Reach camp in the late afternoon with enough time to relax and enjoy this beautiful, remote setting.

The following day you have the option of enjoying an early morning guided walk through the park or to sleep in and enjoy the sounds of the wild. Later, your group will visit the community-run tribal textile project and wander through a local village.

In the afternoon you can enjoy a game drive in the South Luangwa National Park, where a beautiful sunset is a backdrop to some amazing wildlife photographic opportunities.

Days 5-6: Head Up into the Malawian Highlands

Leave the South Luangwa wilderness behind and pass through the Zambia-Malawi border into the highlands of Malawi, home to one of the largest man-made forests in Africa.

You'll spend the night at Luwawa Forest Camp, and have the chance to enjoy some leisurely fishing, mountain biking and hiking.

Days 7-8: Soak up the Sun at Lake Malawi

Travel down from the forest to the wide expanses of Lake Malawi, where you'll spend the next couple of carefree days on Kande Beach.

For the more adventurous there are endless leisure and water-sport activities: snorkelling, scuba-diving, parasailing, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing and horse-riding are all available.

Alternatively, relax on the beaches, enjoy the sunshine and enjoy one of Africa's most tranquil holiday spots.

Days 9-10: Relax at Chitimba Beach

Continue along the lake shore to Chitimba Beach, an area known for its banana palms and papaya trees. Because Lake Malawi lies at an altitude of around 500 meters, it has a constant warm, tropical climate.

If you are feeling fit and adventurous, then a hike up to Livingstonia and the nearby waterhole a must. This is quite a tough hike and you'll have to leave early if you want to make it back by dusk.

There is abseiling here too which can be booked through Chitimba Beach Camp. Alternatively, you can just relax on the beach.

Day 11: Travel Through Tea Plantations

Leave Lake Malawi behind you and make the border crossing into Tanzania.

As you climb out of the Great Rift Valley through some spectacular mountain passes, you'll pass through the vast tea plantations in the highlands to your camp on Kisolonza Farm outside Iringa.

Day 12: Arrive in Historic Dar es Salaam

Today you transit through Mikumi National Park to the historical port city of Dar es Salaam - known as the gateway to the Zanzibar 'spice islands'.

The city is an eclectic mix of Swahili, German, Asian and British architecture, reflecting its colonial past and more recent history.

You'll stay at Mikadi Beach or Silversands for the night, where your guide will arrange your ferry tickets for your island crossing the next day.

Days 13-15: Explore the 'Spice Island' of Zanzibar

Transfer by ferry in the morning and arrive on the exotic island of Zanzibar - the spice capital of East Africa. Spend the first night in historical Stone Town before transferring the northern part of the island.

Zanzibar is worth exploring; coral reefs, white, sandy beaches, bustling markets and ancient architecture make the island a colourful and exotic destination.

Wander through Stone Town with its interesting mix of markets, winding streets and busy people; embark on a spice tour, or just relax island style with optional snorkelling and scuba dives.

Day 16: Catch a Ferry Back to Dar

Today you'll reluctantly leave Zanzibar, catch a late ferry (or flight) back to Dar es Salaam and return to your campsite at Mikadi Beach or Silversands.

Day 17: Drive Past Mount Kilimanjaro

Your morning starts with a long and scenic drive through the Tanzania highlands to Arusha, the safari capital of East Africa. Remember to be on the lookout for Mount Kilimanjaro, usually only visible on clear days.

Spend the evening in Meserani Snake Park or Masi Camp, where those who are going to explore the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater the following day will prepare for their excursion.

Days 18-19: Discover the Serengeti & Ngorongoro

Today you have the opportunity for an excursion into the renowned Serengeti National Park, home of the annual wildebeest migration.

Enjoy a morning game drive, then travel via Olduvai Gorge, known as the 'Cradle of Mankind' to the wildlife rich Ngorongoro Crater.

For those not going into the parks, there is the chance to explore Arusha and absorb some of the fascinating local culture.

Day 20: Visit a Local Masaai Village

Travel to one of the local villages and meet with some of the Maasai people, a proud tribe known for their tall stature, striking red blankets and Moran warriors.

In the evening you'll enjoy a meal around the truck, as you prepare to head off into the Masai Mara for the next stage of your overland adventure.

Day 21: Dine at Nairobi's Carnivore Restaurant

After crossing the border into Kenya, with Kilimanjaro receding into the distance, you'll continue on towards Nairobi, Kenya's capital city.

In the evening you may choose to eat out at one of the restaurants in this cosmopolitan and lively city. A popular choice is Carnivore, a unique open-air meat speciality restaurant.

Day 22: Enter the Masai Mara

Today your group will be entering the Masai Mara, which is the Kenyan side of Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. The Mara is famous for the annual wildebeest migration and is home to countless other plains game, as well as a host of predators.

Arrive after lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive through the park.

Day 23: Interact with the Maasai

Spend your morning on another game drive through the Mara and end with a cultural interaction with Kenya's native Maasai people.

After lunch you'll leave the Mara to travel to fresh-water Lake Naivasha known for its birdlife.

Day 24: Hike in Hell's Gate National Park

Today you'll spend the morning in Hell's Gate National Park, the name of which comes from the huge red-coloured cliffs that form the entrance to the geothermal interior.

Enjoy a hike through the park or hire a bicycle and mountain bike through the interesing terrain.

In the afternoon you'll head towards Lake Nakuru, home to one of the largest flamingo populations in East Africa. White rhino also inhabit the transitional savanna area surrounding the lake, so be on the on the lookout for some great photographic opportunities.

Day 25: Drive Accross the Equator to Eldoret

Spend a relaxing morning at Lake Nakuru before driving across the equator to Eldoret, the 5th largest city in Kenya and currently the fastest growing.

The Great Rift Valley is still the dominant geographical feature of this region and the altitude at Eldoret is 2100m above sea level. When crossing the equator, you'll have the chance to stop and take some photos.

Day 26: Cross the Uganda Border For Kampala

There is a long drive today, as you travel through Tanzania and cross the border into Uganda. Border crossings require patience as they can take much longer than one can expect.

Drive through the Ugandan landscape and arrive in Kampala, Uganda's capital city, in the afternoon. Later you'll have the opportunity to dine out at one of the local restaurants.

Day 27: Visit the Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary

Although today is officially set aside to explore Kampala, most overlanders use the day to enjoy an optional day trip to the Chimpanzee Santuary on Ngamba island, a non-profit and eco-friendly project that cares for orphaned chimpanzees.

If the weather is unpleasant or the lake to rough for this excursion, then there are many other activities available in Kampala. Spend some time shopping at the local markets, trying local food at the Nakasero food market, or visiting one of the many nightclubs.

Days 28-30: Track Gorillas in the Forests

The next few days may be the highlight of your tour, as you trek through the forests of Uganda in serach of the mountain gorillas, an endangered species with only about 650 remaining in the wild.

Whenever possible you will make use of the National Parks in Uganda, but should permits not be available for either Bwindi or Mgahinga then you will travel to Rwanda or DRC, where visas are available on the borders.

Your trek through the forest is sure to be an unforgettable experience. At times the gorilla tracking can be long and demanding, but is quite possibly one of the most thrilling and evocative experiences that Africa has to offer.

Please note that permits are only valid for one day, and your group may be split over two days depending on its size to ensure everyone gets a chance to enjoy a gorilla trek.

Location: Bwindi National Park, Uganda
Days 31-32: Visit the Queen Elizabeth NP

Leave the gorillas behind and travel into Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you might have the chance to see the elusive giant forest hog and the legendary tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha region.

Game is often best viewed from water, and thus a leisurely sunset cruise on the Kasinga Channel is recommended. The park contains over 1995sq km of exceptional bio-diversity with over 600 bird species.

Location: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda
Day 33-34: Volunteer in Jinja

Depart the Queen Elizabeth National Park early for the long drive to Jinja, where you'll spend the entire next day. As Uganda's 2nd largest city, Jinja offers a number of exciting and rewarding activities.

Go white-water rafting on the Victoria Nile, which flows out of Lake Victoria, or spend some time volunteering for the Soft Power Education, a UK registered charity that is educating Jinja's Youth with building projects and school refurbishment.

Day 35: Travel Back to Nairobi

Your final day will be spent driving back to Nairobi, a long but scenic drive.

On arrival your tour will end, but as this is the last day, your group may choose to dine together at Nairobi's famous Carnivore Restaurant.
