This overland tour gives you the chance to explore all the highlights of southern Africa, starting and ending in its most beautiful city, Cape Town. Travel up to Namibia to see dunes and deserts, across to Botswana to visit the Delta and Chobe. Then it's on to the spectacular sights and adrenaline activities of the Victoria Falls. Returning once more to South Africa, you'll visit the Kruger Park for another spot of big game viewing. Travelling through Swaziland you reach the spicy city of Durba

Day 1: Cederberg
You depart Cape Town heading north for the Cederberg Mountain region. This area offers a variety of outdoor activities. On this first afternoon you spend some time learning about tour-life, the vehicle and equipment.

Day 2: Namaqualand
You travel north through Namaqualand and head for the Gariep River. The night is spent on the banks of the river, sitting around the campfire, getting to know one another.

Day 3: Gariep River
In the morning you have the opportunity to experience the Gariep River by canoe. Choose between a relaxing morning on the riverbank or the half-day Canoe adventure. After lunch you travel north to the Ai-Ais Hot Springs where you spend an enjoyable afternoon in the warm waters.

Day 4: Fish River Canyon
After an early breakfast your journey takes you to the mighty Fish River Canyon where there will be ample possibility to take some spectacular pictures of the second largest Canyon in the world.

After visiting the Canyon you travel further inland to the Kalahari area of Namibia. On the way you will make a short stop near Keetmanshoop to visit the Kokerboom (Quiver Tree) Forest – fantastic for photography! Tomorrow you will have the option to go on a game drive and meet the local bushman community.

Day 5: Namib-Naukluft
This morning those who wish to spend some time with the !Kung will have the chance to do so. This activity is a local community project and all fees are payable directly to the community. Those who choose not to participate can spend a leisurely morning on short hikes in the desert, or sleeping in. Later you drive west towards Sossusvlei and enter the Namib region.

Day 6: Sossusvlei
Taking advantage of the cooler temperatures you depart at dawn and drive into the Namib-Naukluft National Park where you will hike up one of the dunes for a different perspective of the desert. You leave the truck at the 2x4 parking area where you have the option to go on a guided walk with a local expert on the area, or hike into Sossusvlei with some of the other group members. In the late afternoon you will visit Sesriem Canyon.

Day 7-8: Swakopmund
A dramatic drive through the arid Namib Naukluft sees you arrive at Walvis Bay where, if you are fortunate, the resident flamingo flock can be seen. Then it's on to the seaside resort town of Swakopmund. You have the option of enjoying a dinner at a local restaurant serving the catch of the day from the local fishermen, or dining at the lodge, both at your own expense. The next day is left totally open for each person to pursue their own interests including many adventure activities.
Optional Activities: Quadbiking, Sandboarding, Sky Diving, Scenic Flights, Fishing etc…

Day 10-11: Etosha
An early rise sees you on your way to Etosha National Park and some of most unique game viewing experiences in Africa. You spend your days visiting the abundant water holes for some excellent game photography. After your evening meal you relax at some of the finest floodlit waterholes in the world. Occasionally it may not be possible to overnight inside the National Park in which case you will spend the night at a lovely guest farm just outside of Etosha.

Day 12: Windhoek
After an early morning game drive you set off for Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. On the way you will stop at a local craft market for some shopping. An evening meal at Joe’s Beer House (own expense) is a highlight for non-vegetarians as you can try many different types of game meat. Vegetarians are well catered for and the interesting décor and vibrant atmosphere makes it well worth the visit.

Location: Windhoek, Namibia
Day 14-16: Okavango Delta
Your journey takes you from Ghanzi to Maun. The afternoon can be spent exploring the town or relaxing at camp. The next morning you will leave early for the airport where you will board planes and transfer in to the Delta. During your time in the Delta you will go on a nature walk and a mokoro ride with the local people. The following morning the planes come and collect you and you return to Maun. The flight is a wonderful scenic experience and the Delta is spectacular.

Day 17: Caprivi National Park
Sadly, you leave the Okavango Delta behind you and cross back into Namibia. You travel through the Caprivi National Park en route to your next 'home' alongside the Zambezi River. You spend the night relaxing next to the mighty Zambezi, part of Africa's 4th largest river system.

Days 18: Chobe National Park
Today is a short drive back into Botswana to Kasane. Located on the banks of the Chobe River, Kasane is a popular base for exploring Chobe National Park and the 3 surrounding countries. In the afternoon you enjoy a relaxing river cruise on the Chobe River, watching the game come down to the riverbank to drink. Viewing game from a boat is one of the most successful ways to see the animals in their own environment.

Day 19: Victoria Falls
Arriving early at the Victoria Falls, you have lunch and enough time to visit the Falls. The popular optional sunset cruise includes dinner and drinks.

Day 20: Victoria Falls
Most people will spend the day White Water Rafting, a not-to-be-missed experience of a lifetime! The Victoria Falls area offers many exciting activities. This evening is normally spent together as a group at a local restaurant, recounting your tour experiences and adventures thus far.

Day 21: Martinsdrift
Departure is at 6am from Savanna Lodge. It is a long drive through Botswana to the border at Martinsdrift where you will spend the night.

Day 22: Johannesburg
Another 6am departure will ensure that you cover the next 750 km and get to Johannesburg as early as possible.

Day 23: Panorama Route
Leaving behind Johannesburg, the city of gold, you head through the province of Mpumalanga and some breathtaking vistas of the Lowveld. Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes will be some of today’s highlights. You will spend the evening at a lodge just outside the Kruger Park.

Day 24-25: Kruger Park
You get up early and visit a Wildlife rehabilitation centre for an educational experience before you enter Kruger. The next 2 days are spent exploring the southern part of this vast reserve, in which you stand a good chance of sighting elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo - Africa's famed 'big 5'.

An optional night drive with one of the South African National Park (SANP) rangers is an excellent way to see some of the nocturnal animals and this activity can be booked through the SANP office.

Day 26-27: Swaziland
Today you leave the Kruger Park and cross the border to Swaziland. There is an opportunity during your visit to Swaziland for curio shopping as you stop off to browse through the markets.

Your next 2 nights are spent inside the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary where you are able to explore the area on foot. You also have the opportunity to experience Swazi culture firsthand by visiting a traditional village. Other activities available include mountain biking, horse riding and game viewing.

Day 28: St Lucia
Leaving Swaziland, you travel through the subtropical region towards the Indian Ocean. You spend the afternoon exploring the St Lucia World Heritage Park and enjoying the sights.

Day 29: KwaZulu/Natal
Leaving wonderful St Lucia behind you you journey to a Traditional Zulu Village to experience some Zulu culture. You then drive to Durban where you will spend the night. This vibrant city is home to the largest Indian population outside of India and was where Ghandi spent much of his youth. It is possible to go out this evening to try one of Durban’s famous curry restaurants or some of the local clubs and bars.

Location: Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa
Day 30-31: Drakensberg
You leave Durban and the Kwa-Zulu Natal coast and travel to the Royal Natal National Park to see your first glimpse of the mighty Drakensberg escarpment. The next day is spent at leisure. You can choose any of the local activities such as horse riding or relax in the spectacular surroundings.

Day 32-33: Lesotho
After a full day's drive you arrive in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho with its breathtaking scenery. When border formalities are completed you climb into the mountains to your rustic overnight spot. The next day you get up early and those going on the Pony Trek will ride into the remote hills of Lesotho accompanied by local guides. If you choose to remain behind you can just relax or visit the local village, school or craft market.

Days 34-35: Coffee Bay
You exit Lesotho and spend the day driving to Coffee Bay where you will spend the next 2 nights. You have a full day to relax on the beach. A hike along the coast to the famous 'Hole in the Wall' is both a rewarding experience and an excellent photographic opportunity.

Day 36: Addo Elephant Park
You spend your time in Addo Elephant National Park surrounded by elephants. These magnificent creatures are always a highlight and Addo provides you with many fantastic photographic opportunities.

Days 37-38: Tsitsikamma
After an early morning game drive you say goodbye to the elephants and drive further along the sunshine coast until you reach Tsitsikamma National Park. This beautiful coastal park which combines inigenous forest and fynbos with spectacular seascapes has some amazing hikes, including the first section of the well-known Otter Trail.

As you are now based at the heart of the picturesque Garden Route, there are many other activities to choose from as well including the highest bungee jump in the world, tubing or a treetop tour.

Day 39: Knysna
It is a short distance to Knysna, one of South Africa’s best-known resort towns. There are many activities on offer here as well as the chance to explore this interesting and artistic town. Go fishing on the lagoon, shopping in the town or abseil off Knysna Heads – the choice is yours.

Day 40: Oudtshoorn
Today you travel on through to the Outeniqua Mountains as you head for Oudtshoorn. After arriving you undertake a tour of the world-renowned Cango Caves. Later in the day you visit an Ostrich Farm where you can have some fun taking a ride on an ostrich, the largest bird in the world.

Day 41: Stellenbosch
After breakfast you set off for Stellenbosch – the most well known wine-growing region in South Africa. As this is the last night on tour you will go out to a local restaurant for dinner. In whale season (between June and November) you divert through Hermanus and to see the massive whales from the shore.

Day 42: Cape Town
After a leisurely breakfast, you set off for some wine tasting before reaching Cape Town. Your journey ends on arrival in central Cape Town.
