Travel from the beautiful city of Cape Town throughout southern and East Africa to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

Begin with an adventure through Nambia, which includes visiting Sossusvlei, the Namib Nauklauft Park, Sesreim and Fish River Canyons and adrenalin central - Swakopmund. Cross the border into Botswana and explore the scenic Okavango Delta and Chobe before arriving at the majestic Victoria Falls.

Head north for Zambia's South Luangwa National Park for some excellent game viewing, then meander around Lake Malawi and soak up the sun. Travel to exotic Dar es Salaam and the 'Spice Island' of Zanzibar before rounding off the trip of a lifetime with a safari through the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Day 1: Depart Cape Town for the Cederberg

Leave Cape Town, 'The Mother City' behind and head north into the Cederberg Mountain range, one of the main rooibos growing areas in South Africa, and home to beautiful wildflowers that bloom in October.

On this first afternoon, you'll spend some time learning about tour life, the vehicle and equipment. Later you can climb up one of the 'kopies' (small hill) and enjoy a sundowner or two.

Day 2: Head for the Gariep 'Orange' River

Travel north through picturesque Namaqualand and head for the Gariep or 'Orange' River, the natural border between South Africa and Namibia. Most of the afternoon will be spent travelling through the beautiful yet isolated Northern Cape Province.

The night is spent around the campfire on the banks of the Gariep River, and is the ideal time to get to know your fellow overlanders.

Day 3: View the Fish River Canyon

Choose between a relaxing morning on the riverbank or a half-day canoe adventure up the Gariep River. Navigate rapids and drift through mirror-like flat sections before arriving back at camp, where after lunch you'll travel north to the Fish River Canyon.

Situated along the lower reaches of the seasonal Fish River, this canyon is the second largest in the world and reaches 161km in length.

Day 4: Explore the Sesreim Canyon

From the Fish River Canyon you will continue on into the remote Namibian hinterland. Arrive at the camp in the afternoon and enjoy a scenic walk into the smaller Sesreim Canyon.

This is an excellent night to sleep out under the stars, beside the camp fire.

Day 5: Hike up Famous Dune 45

Take advantage of the cooler temperatures and depart the Sesreim Canyon at dawn for the Namib Naukluft National Park, where you'll hike up Dune 45, a dune often depicted in travel magazines, to gain a different perspective of the desert.

After this you'll have the option to take a guided hike with fellow group members into Sossusvlei to climb the gigantic red dunes and explore the ghostly Deadvlei.

Location: Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia
Days 6-7: Cross the Tropic of Capricorn

Enjoy a dramatic drive through the arid Namib Naukluft and cross the Tropic of Capricorn before arriving in Walvis Bay, a town known for its large flamingo population.

Continue north to the seaside resort town of Swakopmund, where you'll have the whole of day 7 free to pursue some of the many adventure activities on offer, such as sand-boarding, quad-biking and sky-diving over the desert.

Day 8: Drive Inland to Mysterious Spitzkoppe

Leave all the trappings of modern life behind and drive inland to the mysterious Spitzkoppe, a sacred site of the San people and known for its striking rock formations.

Spend some time climbing the boulders and enjoying a drink or two with a beautiful Namibian sunset as the highlight of your evening. Camp in the wild for the night.

Days 9-11: Meet the Himbas en route to Etosha

An early rise takes you inland and north to a camp near a Himba settlement. The next day you'll spend an enjoyable and educational morning with the semi-nomadic Himba people, a tribe instantly recognisable by their red oche skin and intricate hair and jewellery.

Continue further inland to the renowned Etosha National Park, where you'll spend your time visiting the waterholes and the Etosha Pan, a striking backdrop to some incredible photographic opportunities.

After your evening meals you can relax and enjoy some night game viewing at the floodlit camp waterholes, some of the finest in the world. Occasionally it is not possible to stay inside the park at night, in which case you will spend the night at a local guest farm.

Location: Etosha, Namibia
Days 12: Tour Windhoek, Capital of Namibia

After an early morning game drive you'll set off towards Windhoek, the quiet, historical capital city of Namibia. On the way you'll stop at a popular craft market where you'll have the chance to pick up some authentic curios.

In the afternoon enjoy a short city tour, with an optional dinner out at Joe's Beer House.

Day 13: Cross over into Botswana

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Buitepos border, where your group will cross over into Botswana.

After the border formalities are finished, you'll arrive at camp in Ghanzi and meet with a local Bushmen community to experience some traditional tribal dancing.

Location: Okavango Delta, Botswana
Days 14-16: Enter the Okavango Delta by Mokoro

Wake early to continue your overland trek from Ghanzi to Maun, known as the gateway to the Okavango. Spend the night here and prepare for your two night bush-camping experience.

Your guides will provide you with a briefing about the next few day's activities and the local community-run tourism operation.

From here you'll enter the Delta using local transport, and if the water level allows you'll take a mokoro (dug out canoe) trip through the Delta waterways, as well as a nature walk with some of the local community.

Day 17: Travel East to Gweta

Leave the Okavango Delta behind and travel east to the town of Gweta, located midway between Maun and Nata, near the beautiful Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.

Location: Chobe National Park, Savuti, Botswana
Day 18: Cruise on the Chobe River

Today you'll head towards Kasane, where you'll camp on the banks of the Chobe River in the Chobe National Park.

The afternoon can be spent game viewing on an optional boat cruise, an excellent opportunity to view some of Chobe's spectacular wildlife.

Location: Victoria Falls, Zambia
Days 19-21: Enjoy Thrills & Spills at Victoria Falls

Arrive early at Victoria Falls - 'The Smoke that Thunders', where you'll have time to plan the next day's adventure activities and get a chance to visit the Falls. A popular evening option is a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River which includes dinner and drinks.

The following day you have the chance to get your adrenaline pumping with white-water rafting, bungee jumping, elephant back safaris and even a helicopter or micro-light flip over the Falls.

Days 22-23: Journey to Lusaka

Leave behind the excitement of Victoria Falls and continue with your expedition into Africa. The journey towards the bustling Zambian capital, Lusaka, takes you along a winding, scenic route.

The next day begins with some shopping in Lusaka before heading north-east towards Chipata, an interesting area full of friendly locals.

Days 24-25: Explore the South Luangwa

Early in the morning you'll drive from Chipata to the South Luangwa National Park, one of the secrets of southern Africa, and where you'll spend 2 nights on the banks of the river.

Get up early for an optional guided game walk or choose to sleep in. Mid-morning you'll have the chance to visit the community-run tribal textile project and a local village, before enjoying a late afternoon game drive.

On occasion the rainy season may make it impossible or inadvisable to reach the park, if this is the case then an alternative itinerary will be chosen.

Days 26-27: Head North for the Malawi Highlands

Today you'll cross the Zambia-Malawi border after leaving the South Luangwa National Park in the early morning.

Head north and enter the scenic highlands of Malawi and spend the night in Luwawa Forest.

This beautiful area is known for its forest hikes, but can get quite chilly in winter. If you are there in the warmer months, hire a sail boat and enjoy a trip across the dam.

Days 28-31: Relax on the Shores of Lake Malawi

Lake Malawi, formerly Lake Nyasa, is the southernmost of the Great Rift Valley lakes and has a warm, tropical climate. Here you'll spend a couple of carefree days relaxing on the white sandy beaches.

For the more adventurous there are endless leisure and water-sport activities, such as scuba-diving, snorkelling, parasailing and windsurfing.

Alternatively, soak up the atmosphere and relax in one of the most scenic and memorable holiday destinations in Africa.

Days 32-33: Travel from Iringa to Dar es Salaam

Today you'll ascend out of the great Rift Valley through some spectacular mountain passes, where you'll pass the vast tea plantations in the highlands to your camp outside Iringa.

The next day is a long, but scenic drive through Mikumi National Park to the historical port city of Dar es Salaam.

Days 34-36: Experience Zanzibar Beach Life

A local ferry will take you from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, and a city full of bustling markets, unique architecture and friendly people.

Spend the first night in Stone Town and explore this fascinating city, before transferring to the northern part of the island the following day.

Spend 2 days relaxing on the beaches and enjoying the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Embark on a fascinating Spice Tour, Dolphin Tour, go scuba-diving or snorkel over the reefs.

Location: Zanzibar, Tanzania
Days 37-38: Take the Scenic Route to Arusha

Leave the white beaches of Zanzibar behind and catch a late ferry or flight back to Dar es Salaam and return to the campsite.

The next day you'll travel to Arusha, known as the safari capital of Tanzania.

If the weather is good with clear skies, you may see majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. After arriving in Arusha, those who are going to explore the Serengeti National Park will have the chance to get ready for their safari.

Days 39-40: Witness the Serengeti Wildlife

Today you have the opportunity to embark on a couple days trip into the mighty Serengeti National Park - home to the annual wildebeest migration.

The following day head out via Olduvai Gorge and into the Ngorongoro Crater, known for being one of the richest wildlife areas in Africa.

For those not going into the parks, take this time to relax and absorb some of the interesting local culture in Arusha.

Day 41: Visit a Local Masaai Village

Today you'll visit a local village and meet with some of the Masaai people, a fiercely proud tribe recognised by their red blankets and tall stature.

Tonight you'll enjoy a final meal around the truck and reminisce over your group's adventures.

Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Day 42: Dine in Nairobi's Carnivore Restaurant

After finally crossing the border into Kenya, you'll continue to Nairobi, a cosmopolitan African-Europena city with many immigrants from former British colonies.

The number of churches, mosques, temples and gurdwaras within the city bear testimony to its multiculturalism.

Although the tour ends on arrival in the city, a dinner at the world-renowned Carnivore restaurant is recommended as a perfect end to your overland adventure.
